Upcycling-DIY: Candles for a special atmosphere

"When you think of candles, do you think of winter? Warm candlelight is a great way to make your home cosy during long, dark evenings. But candles are also great any time of year. From rainy spring days to a romantic candlelit dinner, or a special surprise on a birthday cake – candles are always a great addition to your day. Even in the summer, candles can turn your patio or balcony into an oasis for the whole family. When the sun goes down, you can enjoy relaxed evenings in the flickering candle light.

Collect Monte pots and get started!

No matter which Monte products your family loves best, start collecting empty pots now! Give them new life with our upcycling project. Empty Monte pots in various sizes are perfect for creating Monte-shaped candles! Making candles at home is a great DIY project that is very easy and takes just a few extra materials. Reusing extra wax from old candles that have burnt down over time is an even more sustainable option. Every Monte fan in your family will love having candles that look like their favourite milk cream dessert!"

For 4 candles, you will need:

  • 4 Monte pots (different sizes)
  • Candle wax (brown & white/beige, always use slightly more wax than the quantity indicated on the pot)
  • 4 wicks (different lengths)
  • 1 pot
  • 2 tin cans (smaller than the pot)
  • Toothpicks or wooden sticks

Instructions

Step 1

Fill the pot with water and heat on the stove. Place the brown candle wax in a tin can, place the tin can in the pot and allow the wax to melt. Repeat the same process with the white wax and the second can.

Step 2

Line up the Monte pots and place a wick in each one. Tie the wick onto a toothpick or wooden stick, so that it stays in the centre. Ensure the correct direction for burning!

Step 3

Pour wax into the pots. For a multicoloured effect, add a brown layer first, allow it to harden, then add a white layer. Continue layer by layer until the pots are completely filled. Allow to cool, and wait until the wax is completely hardened.

Step 4

Carefully remove the candles from the pots. If they are stuck, the pots can be cut away.

Finished with all of your Monte candles? Then turn out the lights and light them up for special moments with your loved ones!
